Solar PV

Photovoltaics (PV) is a method of generating electrical power by converting solar radiation into direct current electricity using semiconductors that create the photovoltaic effect. This process allows the direct current to be transformed into alternating current using an inverter. The alternating current can then be used to power distribution panels and offset the power that would normally be provided by local service providers thereby reducing consumption. The reduction conserves both power usage and costs to the user.

Together Boyette Electric and Okefenokee Solar are the links to a more energy efficient lifestyle. Environmental, economic, and self sustainability are among the top reasons for choosing a solar lifestyle. No matter the reason, a plan can be implemented to achieve all the goals set forth.

The Process:

1. Initial consultation
During the initial consultation, the reasons for installing solar are discussed. Questions are addressed and the style of system that best suits the needs would be presented with pros and cons of each scenario.

2. Site Survey
A site survey is conducted to determine if the site is suitable for solar. Unfortunately, not every site meets the criteria for a good solar locations. This may be due to position in relation to the sun, shading, or geographical features, etc. The survey will determine the best location for the PV system. The top locations are south facing. A shading analysis will be conducted to determine if there are any elements that would shade the PV system making it inefficient. Factors to consider would be the age and shape of a roof for a roof mounted location, the geographical composition of a ground mount and the size/location of electrical panels.

3. Design and Pricing
After completing the site survey, all information will be compiled for a system design that best meets the needs for the site. In addition to design, a cost analysis will be developed and presented.

4. Final Consultation
A final meeting is scheduled to present the custom designed system and cost analysis. This meeting will aid in making a final decision and answering any additional questions or concerns regarding costs and design elements. Any federal, state, or local incentives that may be available will be discussed at the time of the final meeting.

Incentives

Federal, state, or local incentives may be available for residents and businesses who want to pursue PV systems. These programs can offset the costs through direct funding or tax credits. Program qualifications vary and expire. Check with your PV system representative for available programs. It is recommended that all potential applicants for these programs check and consult with a Certified Public Accountant on all incentive programs.
